IWantANewMarriage, Continued.

Last week, you may have watched a short clip that I posted.  A promo from a teaching series someone brought to my attention, called…

IWantANewMarriage

I wonder if anyone went and watched or listened to any of the video, or downloaded the podcast?

From the Newspring Church website:

“Are you worn out? Miserable? Ready to trade it all in and start over? If you're here, you probably should. Start watching this series to find out how to flip the switch on getting rehitched.”

I am not affiliated with this church in any way.  Someone just sent me a link to this teaching.  I like what I am hearing.  I think that all of us could benefit from hearing the message that Perry Noble is delivering.

If you like a honest, blunt, convicting, humorous and life changing message. This message is for you.  If you don’t like a message like that, then this message is probably really for you!

The message is toward married and singles.  Here is another clip…

I’ve watched this video a few times.. if it wasn’t so incredibly true of what is going on in our world, it would be funny.

I’ve listened to a few of the lessons.  If you go to listen/watch you can forward about 30 minutes into the video to get to the speaking part.  But, if you have time to listen to the worship that is a blessing too.

I’ll share my thoughts about this soon…

“I do Again…”

I found another ministry fighting for marriages… after divorce…

Hope Matters Marriage Ministries, is a ministry with a new book out, I Do Again.

I haven't read the book, but I hope to.

Here are a few You-Tube Videos… the first one is the short version, the last two are a longer interview, in case you wanted to hear more…

Forgiveness Comments…

I thank those of you who left me such encouraging comments yesterday on my post about forgiveness.  I am touched that you were touched.

I checked, my blog got 193 hits yesterday.  This post got 11 comments.  I wonder if the 182 of you who looked at the post, and didn’t comment, thought… she’s just crazy.  Out of her mind.  Delusional.

Or maybe you thought, yeah that is fine for her… but she didn’t have x, y, and z done to her.

Or was it, he must be some great catch, to want him back so bad.

Or maybe the pain is just too raw, and maybe I don’t have the right words to speak to just everyone’s hearts…

Let me address a few of those unasked questions…

Yes, I’m crazy!  ;)

I have purposely not exposed HSSH’s failings on this blog.  But, that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I’d talk to anyone personally, or by e-mail if you wanted to get more in depth with me on the specific things you are struggling to forgive and the specific things that God has helped me to forgive.

Please don’t think this is easier for someone else than it would be for you.  Forgiveness is not easy for any of us.

In fact, as I was thinking about this more yesterday, I wondered about the things that happen to us that are not maybe so HUGE and UGLY, but smaller and kind of like a pebble in your shoe.  Maybe that is the thing that you really need to forgive.  Not a huge thing, by man’s standard, but God doesn’t see sins on the levels that man does, does He.

What if your pain is too raw?  Too recent?  Too much?  What if it just doesn't stop even if I forgive and forgive?  What if it is just too hard?  What if no one understands?

Someone always understands.  No matter where you are in the matter.  years past.  In the midst.  Or just a raw, open, oozing sore that is continually being ripped open.  God knows.  He sees.  He hears.  He never misses a tear… He feels the pain with you.

“Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy”

Psalms 126:5

“You've kept track of my every toss and turn through the sleepless nights,  Each tear entered in your ledger, each ache written in your book.”

Psalms 56:8 (msg)

I write all this with scars that are very fresh.  From wounds that couldn’t seem to heal, because they were constantly being torn open again and again by my circumstances.  My doubt.  My worry.  My disappointment.  My unforgiveness.

There is no pride in what I write here.  Only confession and glory to God who has brought me through it, this far.  Yes, I am a little crazy.  Crazy enough to believe that God can do this in all of us, if only we will let Him… because I am feeling it in myself.

The Miracle of Forgiveness.

Forgiveness Blows My Mind!  God’s forgiveness of me, daily… as I muddle my way through this life.  Sometimes having victory, sometimes not so much…

The forgiveness that is on my mind tonight is the forgiveness that God has planted deep in my heart for my ex-husband.  I don’t know how it got there.  God put it there.  HSSH has never, to my recollection, since he walked out over three years ago asked for it.

I have Beth Moore’s Book, Praying God's Word.  I believe that is where the forgiveness began for me.  This is one book that I haven’t put back on the shelf… I go back to it over and over again.  Praying.

If you have a copy, go to page 240, the heading says “Praying for the person you need to forgive”.

And there it begins.

I truly don’t believe I would feel like I do, if I had not learned to pray for HSSH.  I wish I could read you the whole 4 pages Beth contributes to this topic in the book…

“After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before… The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the first” (Job 42:10,12).

Because Job was willing to bless those who hurt them when his human nature would have been to curse them, God was liberated to open the floodgates of heaven and pour out blessings on his life.  He will undoubtedly do the same thing for us.  God will prosperous us when we’re willing to put our human inclinations on the altar and respond His way instead.  Let’s not be afraid to do the hard thing.  To this we were called.  And we will inherit a blessing.”

I don’t know why, but I believed this when I read it.  And it was hard. hard. hard the first 50 or so times I prayed for him in the way the book suggests.  I wanted to be angry and wish curses on him for all he had done to me and my kids.  For leaving me with all this responsibility and all these burdens.

Beth ends the section, right before she gives verses to pray, with this…

“Will the person you’re praying for change?  Will they receive the blessing you’ve mustered all the courage to ask God for?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  That’s up to them.  But will your heart change, will you find freedom to forgive, and will you receive blessing?  Absolutely!  Take God at His Word and find out.  Please use the Scriptures that apply to your situation, then seek out your own from God’s Word and pray earnestly!  I’m not sure God ever honors a prayer more than the one that was hardest for us to pray.”

I am very sad to say that as of yet, I have not seen any change in HSSH because of my prayers.  I did have a civil phone conversation with him last week… a crumb in the grand canyon of the problem… but no change that my eyes have seen… yet.

But, the change in me.  That’s been very amazing.  Now, when I hear anyone speak against HSSH for what he has done, my heart hurts for the person speaking it.  When I hear someone doubting God’s ability to work in a heart that is so far strayed.  My heart hurts for them.  Being angry at HSSH for this doesn't help anyone, it sure has never made me feel any better about the situation.

Have you read the book The Shack?  I’ve read it twice now.  I know some people don’t like it.  I read some negative comments of it, and had to go re-read it again… it’s deep.  It touches me.  I don’t know.  I don’t have an issue with it… anyway… the end of the book.  The main character Mack, dealing with forgiveness for the man who murdered his daughter…

“Papa simply let the torrent rush out of Mack, waiting for the wave to pass..

‘Mack, for you to forgive this man is for you to release him to me and allow me to redeem him.’

‘Redeem him!’  Again, Mack felt the fire of anger and hurt.  ‘I don’t want you to redeem him!  I want you to hurt him, to punish him, to put him in hell…’  His voice trailed off.

Papa waited patiently for the emotions to ease.

‘I’m stuck, Papa.  I just can’t forget what he did, can I?’ Mack implored.

‘Forgiveness is not about forgetting, Mack.  It is about letting go of another person’s throat.’

‘But I thought you forget our sins?’

‘Mack, I am God.  I forget nothing.  I know everything.  So forgetting for me is the choice to limit myself. Son,’  Papa’s voice got quiet and Mack looked up at him, directly into his deep brown eyes, ‘because of Jesus, there is now no law demanding that I bring your sins back to mind.  They are gone when it comes to you and me, and they run no interference in our relationship.’

‘But this man…’

‘He too is my son.  I want to redeem him.’

‘So what then? I just forgive him and everything is okay, and we become buddies?’  Mack stated softly but sarcastically…’I don’t think I can do this,’

‘I want you to.  Forgiveness is first for you, the forgiver,” answered Papa, ‘to release you from something that will eat you alive; that will destroy your joy and your ability to love fully and openly…’

‘So forgiveness does not require me to pretend what he did never happened?’

‘How can you?  You forgave your dad last night.  Will you ever forget what he did to you?’

‘I don’t think so.’

‘But now you can love him in the face of it.  His change allows for that.  Forgiveness in no way requires that you trust the one you forgive.  But should they finally confess and repent, you will discover a miracle in your own heart that allows you to reach out and begin to build between you a bridge of reconciliation.  And sometimes—and this may seem incomprehensible to you right now—that road may even take you to the miracle of fully restored trust.’”

Forgiveness isn’t easy.  Especially when the person that you are forgiving isn’t changing.  Isn't asking for it.  Doesn’t appear to even care.  Forgiveness is something that I have had to practice daily… some days hourly.

God has been faithful to give the grace to do it.  Some times taking more time than others… but so far.  So good.

My kids… I hope they understand.  I can’t forgive for them.  They have to do it themselves.  They have been told it is not a one time thing… but I don’t know if they really understand.

I pray that they do.

I pray that one day, HSSH will confess and repent for what he has said and done… and not done… and a bridge to reconciliation can be built for each of us.

Soon, Lord.  Soon.

Humbled.

Yesterday I received an e-mail from a friend.  I asked her if I could share it with you all…

Pam,

I generally have not responded to many of my e-mails lately, but truly feel that I should share something with you.

A few years ago our family decided to start a “prayer basket”.  We found a old basket with a handle that I had laying around, and from time to time when we would hear of someone who needed prayer, we would write their name down on a small piece of torn paper, fold it really small, and put it in the basket.  At dinner time, we would get out the basket and go around and say a prayer for each person that we had all drawn. It was a good habit, and I’m sure a rewarding one.

When my husband left for that short/long period of time we had failed to keep up our basket... Recently, I was cleaning the kitchen and on a top shelf, I found our old “friend.  And I brought her back to the table.  My daughter, now being 4 years old, has claimed it as her daily deed, to make sure the basket makes it around during dinner time.   She often hands out the prayers and is incredibly excited about making sure it gets done.

In the basket over time, we have found so many names in there.  People we have forgotten, or haven’t talked to in many years.  People who have lost loved ones, that I am sure that it feels like it’s “old news”.  But, in our home we still continue to pray for all of them.

The funny thing is, that we also have a running joke here…. Your family.  The “A” family is always on the table!  No matter how many names, and there are many names, my daughter never fails to place “J” and Pam on the table at every meal.

I just thought I would let you know that your news is not “old” and we continue to pray for you and your family.  And that nothing is a coincidence!!

“A”

I am humbled… speechless.

Striving for full restoration

This morning I was reading in the last of 2 Corinthians.  It said,

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. (TNIV) 13:11

"Striving for full restoration” jumped off the page at me.

Full restoration is my prayer for my ex-husband’s life.  Full restoration of his relationship with God.  His relationship with me.  His relationship with his children.

Sure, it would be great if one of those happened.  But, that is not “full restoration”.  Not in my mind.  Full restoration is everything.

Full restoration makes me think of what happened to King Nebuchadnezzar

“At the same time that I was given back my mind, I was also given back my majesty and splendor, making my kingdom shine. All the leaders and important people came looking for me. I was reestablished as king in my kingdom and became greater than ever. And that's why I'm singing—I, Nebuchadnezzar—singing and praising the King of Heaven:

   "Everything he does is right,
and he does it the right way.
He knows how to turn a proud person
into a humble man or woman."

Daniel 4:36-37 (Msg)

King Neb, he got it all back when he was humbled… and then some.  That is my prayer.
